I am delighted to be invited to show work at Bunter Hund Galerie in Berlin, a city I feel connected to through personal family history and which has always been progressive and subversive, in terms of its art & artists, throughout its volatile history.
The work in the exhibition explores the idea of fragments and brings disparate elements together to create something new. The use of photo-montage and collage echo the idea of parts forming a whole. Transforming work which has previously been something else into a new arrangement of forms and ideas; layering and tearing away to reveal a multi-layered textured surface, creating a dynamic re-configuration of forms. I have used a narrow spectrum of saturated colour or kept to a largely monochrome palette to allow textures, surfaces and purity of colour and materials to create a momentum; of energy or of stillness.
Cropping and ‘destroying’ in order to rebuild also links to the Dada way of working and connects to Berlins art history.
Many thanks to Pia and Wolfgang for this exciting opportunity.
